Music

While living in Russia, I graduated from St.Petersburg College of Music as a school/kindergarten Music Teacher and worked as Kindergarten Music Instructor and later as a children's choir conductor in one of St.Petersburg's District Music School for Children. Actually, my music education started long before the college years - in first grade of Music School for children. Seven years later (and an eternity from my parents's perspective) I finished it and can't seem to let go ever since, even though my present profession as Software Developer is as far from music as one could imagine...

I first joined Russian School in a Music teacher capacity in 1995 and worked for a couple of years before leaving to finish my "american" education. For the last several years Russian School, once again, is a part of my life. In my Intermidiate Music class (for children of 5 and older) we sing, listen and discuss different forms of music (opera, ballet, symphonic music), learn about orchestral instruments and the basics of solfège.

For many 3-4 years old children in my beginning class this the first close encounter with music lessons and my goal is to make this experience fun through the use of musical instruments, role play, listening to classical pieces and singing our favorite russian songs, so it could be a great start for a life-long love for music.

Maria Azriel
Beginning Theater

Even though both of her children have been going to the school for the past 3 years, Maria joins the school in a teaching capacity for the first time. As a life-long theater buff, a curator at the Indianapolis Art Museum and a mother of two, she brings a very unique combination of skills which will greatly benefit our little actors.

Another school's staff member, Svetlana Kaplan, who is also our treasurer, will be assisting Maria with this class.
